East Africa continues to face severe and compounding threats—from

escalating food and water insecurity to intensified fragility, conflict,
and displacement. Worsening climate shocks have driven extreme
hunger affecting millions and disrupted agricultural and water systems.
Protracted instability is worsening—South Sudan teeters on the brink
of renewed civil war amid ethnic clashes and security threats in the

Nile Equatorial Lakes region. Internal conflict continues in the DRC and
Sudan, increasing regional tensions. CIWA is working to strengthen
regional resilience to climate and water insecurity, amplify civil society
voices in water resource decisions, and foster equitable and inclusive
         riparian dialogue and hydro-diplomacy.
