The SADC Groundwater Management Institute will host its 5th SADC Groundwater Conference on 16, 17 & 18 November 2022. The conference is held annually, with the primary objective of providing a platform for the advancement of knowledge sharing on sustainable management of groundwater at national and transboundary levels across SADC Members States. This year the event will be physically held in Windhoek, Namibia with an online participation option.

Seeing the value of groudwater
South African Dr Kevin Pietersen hosted one of the lightning talks during the 2022, World Water Week in Stockholm, highlighting the importance of groundwater as a resource around the world. Dr Pietersen is the technical advisor to the Groundwater Management Institute for the Southern African Developing Community.
AMCOW Convenes its 2022 Sub-Regional Technical Expert Committee Meetings
In July, AMCOW convened the first of its 2022 Sub-regional Ministerial Committee meeting – starting with the Technical Experts Committee of Western Africa in Abuja, Nigeria. It brought together the Member States in the surrounding region as well as River and Lake Basin Organizations.

Le Cairo Water Week 2022 will take place from 16 to 19 October 2022 and is hosted by the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, in collaboration with national, regional, and international partners. The conference theme is ”Water at the Heart of the Climate Action” and serves as a preparatory platform for COP 27 in November in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
